SC Davorlim booked their place in the quarterfinals of the 44th Gold Silver Football Tournament with a narrow 1-0 win over Parish Youth Nuvem at the Rosary Church Ground, Navelim on Wednesday.
The match began with high intensity as Nevil Mascarenhas of Parish Youth Nuvem impressed early on with his ball control and powerful shots. In just the 3rd minute, he came close to scoring but failed to convert.
Parish Youth continued to press, with Francis Colaco narrowly missing the target in the 7th minute. At the other end, Melchier Miranda of SC Davorlim responded with a good chance in the 10th minute but shot wide.
The breakthrough finally came in the 40th minute when Sidroy Colaco of SC Davorlim headed the ball goalwards. The attempt deflected off a Nuvem defender and rolled into the net, giving Davorlim the lead — which they successfully defended until the final whistle.
Despite the loss, Albino Pereira of Parish Youth Nuvem was named Man of the Match for his outstanding individual performance. The award was presented by Edwin Cardozo, Zilla Panchayat member.
