Shanvi Reddy Nimma sparkles with twin titles

Ishmeet Arora (Madhya Pradesh) capped a stellar run to clinch the boys’ singles title at the Yonex-Sunrise U-13 National Ranking Badminton Tournament, edging Sarthak Joshi (Uttarakhand) in a gripping three-game final 22-20, 8-21, 21-19.

In high-intensity finals played at Manohar Parrikar Indoor stadium, Navelim on Monday, Shanvi Reddy Nimma (Telangana) emerged the star of the tournament, securing a double crown with a commanding 21-9, 21-19 win over Divisha Singh (Maharashtra) in the girls’ singles, before combining with Lyosha Korukonda to lift the girls’ doubles title with a 21-19, 21-18 victory over Shaanvi P. N. and Shambhavi Sharma (Karnataka). In boys’ doubles, Harshith Venkata Sai (Andhra Pradesh) and Hiten (Delhi) overcame Amitesha A.K. and Athvik J.C. (Tamil Nadu) 21-18, 14-21, 21-14 in a hard-fought final.

Organised by the Goa Badminton Association under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India, in association with the South Goa District Badminton Association, and powered by Model Margao, the prestigious National Ranking tournament featured a total prize purse of Rs. 6 lakhs. Goa's rising talent Amaira Dhumatker was awarded a Special Prize for her promising performance.

Earlier in the semifinals, Shanvi Reddy Nimma (Telangana) defeated Stuthi S. Shetty (Karnataka) 21-11, 21-5, while Divisha Singh (Maharashtra) overcame Shreeya A. Rao (Karnataka) 21-19, 21-15 to set up the girls’ singles final.

In boys’ singles, Sarthak Joshi (Uttarakhand) beat Arpit Baliyan (Delhi) 21-11, 21-11, and Ishmeet Arora (Madhya Pradesh) outlasted Rabbiguel Anji (Punjab) 24-22, 19-21, 21-13.

The doubles semifinals saw Amitesha A.K. and Athvik J.C. (Tamil Nadu) prevail in a thriller against Manvith M. A. and Vaibhav Rao Nandikolla (Karnataka) 21-18, 18-21, 22-20, while Harshith Venkata Sai (Andhra Pradesh) and Hiten (Delhi) defeated Rehaan Dudekula (Andhra Pradesh) and Sarthak Joshi (Uttarakhand) 21-17, 14-21, 21-17.

In girls’ doubles, Lyosha Korukonda and Shanvi Reddy Nimma (Telangana) beat Thushita M and Aleena R. (Tamil Nadu) 21-10, 21-14, while Shaanvi P. N. and Shambhavi Sharma (Karnataka) got the better of Kavya Choudhary and Miraya Fageria (Rajasthan) 21-11, 22-20.
