St Sebastian Youth Club Murida, Fatorda emerged champions of the Assumpta Cup 2026 after defeating Mandopa Sporting Club 1-1 (4-3 via tie-breaker) in an exciting final played at the Sarzora Football Ground on Sunday.
Both teams started the match aggressively, creating several attacking moves. Franson Furtado put St. Sebastian Youth Club ahead in the 17th minute with a well-taken goal, giving his side a 1-0 lead at halftime.
After the break, Mandopa Sporting Club returned with renewed determination and found the equaliser in the 55th minute through Venito Costa, taking the match into a penalty shootout.
In the tie-breaker, St. Sebastian Youth Club Murida, Fatorda held their composure to register a 4-3 victory. Successful penalty scorers for the winners were Beckam Dias, Jordan Borges, Clive Miranda and Clancio Pinto. For Mandopa Sporting Club, Richard Costa, Veliton Almeida and Sam Pereira converted their spot-kicks.
Clive Miranda was adjudged Player of the Final and received the award from Fr. Henslie.
The prizes were presented by Chief Guest Cruz Silva, Velim MLA, in the presence of Altone D'Costa, Quepem MLA, Rev. Fr Patrick Furtado, club officials and other dignitaries.
