United Boys of Ambaulim advanced to the finals after defeating Guardian Angel SC 6–5 via the tie-breaker in the 8th Martin’s Cup football tournament organised by Betalbatim Sporting Club and played at the Panchayat Ground, Betalbatim, on Wednesday.
The match ended in a 2–2 draw in regulation time. Crimson Fernandes and Alex Fernandes scored for United Boys of Ambaulim, while Fhezer Gomes and Preston Castanha found the net for Guardian Angel SC.
In the ensuing tie-breaker, Alfiano Fernandes, Sowell Fernandes, Flexson Fernandes and Visiton Fernandes converted their attempts for Ambaulim, while Frazer Gomes, Sheldon Fernandes and Daniel Costa scored for Guardian Angel SC.
Ambaulim goalkeeper Ibon Fernandes, who saved two penalty kicks, was adjudged Man of the Match by Clifford Miranda, coach and former international footballer.
The final will be played on January 18, the feast day of Our Lady of Remedios, between hosts Betalbatim Sporting Club and United Boys of Ambaulim.
