Vision beyond sight: Sakshi Kale’s rise in Para Athletics

Sakshi Eshwar Kale, a visually impaired para-athlete from Kadsal, Khandepar in Ponda, continues to earn national recognition with her outstanding performances in athletics. Competing in the T12 category, Sakshi has accumulated over 25 medals in national and international championships, establishing herself as one of Goa’s most promising para-sport talents.

Over the past four years, Sakshi has made her mark with consistent podium finishes. She won gold in Long Jump and silver in the 200m event at the 20th Senior Para National Championship held in Bhubaneswar in 2022. She followed this up with another stellar performance at the 12th Junior Para National Championship in Gujarat in 2023, winning gold in Long Jump, and silver medals in both 100m and Shot Put.

Sakshi has also represented India at the 5th and 6th Open India Para International Championships in Bangalore, where she won gold in Long Jump and bronze in the 100m and 200m events. At the Para Khelo India National Games in 2023, she secured silver in Long Jump and bronze in 100m.

Her winning streak continued at the 22nd Senior Para National Championship held in Goa, where she again claimed gold in Long Jump and bronze in 100m. In 2025, she participated in various local and national events, including winning the 10KM Lions Republic Run in Bicholim, as well as the Mayem and Mulgaon Marathons.

At the 37th Inter-Collegiate Athletic Championship 2025 in Bambolim, she won gold in 5000m and 3000m, and silver in 100m. Most recently, she clinched gold in the 100m and 200m, and silver in Long Jump at the 23rd National Para Athletics Championship in Chennai.

Sakshi also added a silver medal in the 100m at the World Para Athletic Grand Prix in New Delhi and a gold medal in the 100m at the Khelo India Para Athletic National Games 2025.

Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s in Vocational Computer Science at the Government College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Khandola, Sakshi manages her studies alongside an intense training schedule. She remains committed to promoting inclusivity in sports and mentoring young para-athletes.

Sakshi credited her success to dedicated training, family support, and guidance from her coaches. She expressed her ambition to represent India at the Paralympic Games in the near future.
