Legendary Goan footballer Brahmanand Shankhwalkar released sports writer Rohit Bhandiye's new book 'Sports Commentary'. The foreword for the book has been written by Olympic medalist shooter Gagan Narang.
The book is an anthology of articles written by Rohit in various print media, offering readers a ringside view of popular sports such as cricket and football. It goes beyond the mainstream to shed light on other disciplines such as hockey, table tennis, athletics, badminton, chess, lawn tennis, swimming and squash, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of India's diverse sporting landscape.
With football and cricket as the cornerstones of sports culture in Goa, the book delves into the nuances of these games, providing detailed write-ups that are both insightful and engaging. At the same time, it extends its gaze to the broader spectrum of Indian sports, with thought-provoking articles on the Olympic Games, National Games, and the rise of women in Indian sports.
The book covers several crucial topics such as functioning of football clubs in India, Odisha's emergence as a hockey powerhouse, Goa's cricket scenario, and the pressing need for quality coaching in Goa.
"Rohit's writing reflects a deep commitment to highlighting both the triumphs and challenges of Indian sports, making this book a treasure trove for sports enthusiasts," wrote Gagan Narang in the book's foreword.
Brahmanand congratulated the author for very nice compilation and in-depth analysis of articles on multiple sports and hoped that sports lovers, sportspersons and parents of sportspersons will find this compilation very useful to read.
This is Rohit's second book. Badminton star Saina Nehwal had written the foreword of Bhandiye's first book 'My Take on Sports'.
In fact, Rohit Bhandiye is the only Goan author whose foreword of both his books have been written by Olympic medalists.
