Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Thursday announced the renowned Colva beach in South Goa would be developed as part of tourism coastal circuit under Union Government’s Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.
Addressing a press conference, Khaunte also informed that the work order for the one-of-its-kind town square project in India, proposed in Porvorim at a cost of Rs 120 crore, will be issued next week. The project, which aims to brand and market Goa on global scale, is partly funded under the special assistance by the Union tourism ministry, which has sanctioned Rs 90.7 crore for the project.
Khaunte said that under the Swadesh Dharshan 2.0 scheme, the State has proposed a Rural circuit from Porvorim to Harvalem and Colva beach coastal circuit.
Under the rural circuit, the State has proposed to beautify and develop the famous Pomburpa spring at an estimated cost of Rs four crore, Khaunte said.
For Colva, we will have a complete facelift including beach deck, bird walk, shopping and food plaza, shopping complex, pedestrian footbridge, surveillance in view of safety and security, the Minister informed.
Meanwhile, the Porvorim town square is one of three projects approved by the State cabinet for Ms Bagkiya Constructions Pvt Ltd. The other two are a creek experience in Porvorim, and a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj museum in Farmagudi.
“The work order for all the three projects will be mostly issued by next week,” Khaunte said, adding that the Union Ministry has sanctioned almost Rs 400 crore under the scheme including the Unity Mall.
