Consumers who have their electricity meters located inside their homes or premises will have to shift them to a location on their property outside the house to make them accessible for meter reading and billing.

In a public notice, Chief Electrical Engineer Stephen Fernandes has said that the shifting of the meters will have to be done by the consumer before November 28 this year.

Fernandes has cited regulation 5.125 of the Supply Code issued by the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission in 2018 and warned of penal action if consumers fail to comply.

Fernandes said consumers must identify the location where the meter will be relocated to and which will not be exposed to adverse weather conditions like rain.

"Thereafter, immediately contact the Electricity Department officials at the sub-station mentioned in the bill to shift the meter," the notice issued by Fernandes said, warning that failure to comply by November 28 could lead to disconnection of supply until the issue is resolved.
