Canacona house flooded due to clogged drainage

CANACONA
Rainwater accumulated by the side of Canacona Ravindra Bhavan due to a clogged drain flooded the house of Ulhas Komarpant at Chaudi early Thursday morning.

When the matter was brought to his notice, ward councillor Ramakant Naik Gaunkar requisitioned a JCB and tried to drain the water blocked due to the clogged drain.

Now, a pond has formed on the side of Ravindra Bhavan and there has been further water accumulation since pipes installed near the entrance of Ravindra Bhavan to carry water are also small in diameter and have been blocked due to the accumulation of garbage.

“If the contractor had taken appropriate measures to drain rainwater during the construction of Ravindra Bhavan, the current situation would not have arisen,” said Naik Gaonkar.

Incidentally, Komarpant had informed Art & Culture Minister Govind Gaude, during one of his visits to the Ravindra Bhavan, about the danger of flooding at his house during rains as the Ravindra Bhavan contractor had not taken care to ensure proper drains for the rains.

According to sources, Gaude had then asked a GSIDC official to get the issue rectified before monsoons.

Naik Gaunkar feared that the accumulation of rainwater would lead to mosquito breeding sites and assured Komarpant that they would both meet Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar to convene a meeting with officials concerned and resolve the issue.
