PORVORIM
Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Friday stated that the foundation stone for a full-fledged Primary Health Centre at Porvorim will be laid shortly.

He was speaking at Porvorim after inaugurating the upgraded dialysis unit at the PHC in the presence of Health Officer Dr Sikander Talwar and the panch members of Penha da Franca, Socorro and Salvador do Mundo.

“The Porvorim PHC was started in April 2017 and since then, the workload has increased immensely, and the space is insufficient for the Health centre. There is a need for a full-fledged PHC at Porvorim,” said Khaunte.

“Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had already given consent for a full-fledged PHC at the time of inaugurating the dialysis unit at Porvorim in January 2024. The foundation stone for this full-fledged PHC will be laid shortly.”

The minister said the dialysis unit at Porvorim was opened in January 2024 with 4 beds and 4 dialysis machines.

“There has been a good response from the public and the number of patients on the waiting list went on increasing. With the upgraded dialysis unit, two more beds with dialysis units have been added to the Dialysis Centre.”

“With the addition of two more beds, it will now be possible to treat 18 patients every day in three shifts. This Dialysis centre has been of great help for residents not only from Porvorim constituency but also from surrounding areas,” said Khaunte.

Porvorim PHC Dr Sikander Talwar said patients from 37 to 80 years from different parts of the Porvorim constituency and surrounding areas visit the dialysis centre to seek treatment.

“The first shift starts from 6 am to 10 am, the second shift from 10 am to 2 pm and the third shift from 2 pm to 6 pm. There were 13 patients on the waiting list. With the addition of 2 beds, 12 patients will now be able to seek treatment and one patient will be on the waiting list,” said Dr Talwar.
