The North Goa police have intensified their crackdown on repeat offenders, opening 11 new history sheets over the past week. This takes the district’s total number of history-sheeters to 135 after a detailed analysis of crime records across police stations.
Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta said the move is a bid to keep habitual offenders under close watch and ensure they do not re-engage in criminal activity.
“Crime records at district level were studied and many individuals who are accused in multiple cases were found fit for opening history sheets. A total of 11 new history sheets have been opened in the last one week. The total tally of history sheets in the district now stands at 135. We will continue to maintain surveillance over them so that they don’t indulge in crime again. We endeavor to keep the society safe and create deterrence in the mind of criminals,” Gupta said.
Among the police stations, Old Goa has the highest number of history-sheeters being 23, followed by Calangute with 20, Mapusa 17, Panaji 15 and Anjuna 14. Smaller police jurisdictions like Mopa, Mandrem and Agassaim have between one and three history-sheeters each.
Among the new 11 history sheeters is Gloan Pednekar from Caranzalem, who has six cases of crime against women and property offenses registered at Panaji police station. Yogesh Govekar, from Vagator, has been allegedly involved in body offences with seven cases registered at Anjuna police station and two at Calangute.
