In a bid to crack down on unregulated online travel aggregators (OTAs) in the wake of fraudulent bookings and substandard services, the Department of Tourism has issued a directive mandating all OTAs operating in the State to register under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982, and the Rules of 1985.

A statement issued by the department on Thursday mentions that all such entities must complete their registration within 15 working days from the date of issue of the official circular.

“The directive has been issued following observations that several OTAs are conducting/operating the activity, i.e. accepting online bookings, without obtaining the required No Objection Certificate (NOC), licence, or permissions from the Department of Tourism under the provision of the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982 and Rules of 1985. All concerned are directed to comply with this directive in strict adherence,” it said.
