CAMPUS | Experts decode Union budget at Dempo College

PANAJI: Srinivassa Sinai Dempo College (Autonomous), Cujira, hosted a state-level panel discussion on the Union Budget 2026–27 on February 3 in association with the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s education committee. Experts from key sectors of Goa’s economy discussed the impact of the budget. Asha Arondekar spoke about opportunities and challenges for MSMEs and called for better policy support, stronger infrastructure and easier finance. Rajiv Kumar focused on mining and government steps to raise production and exports. Sanjay Amonkar spoke about industry expectations, including simpler rules and ease of doing business.

Nilesh Shah highlighted measures for sustainable tourism, infrastructure and destination promotion. CA Gaurav Kenkre explained taxation, GST provisions and changes in tax slabs. The discussion was moderated by Manoj S Kamat, who also outlined broader implications for growth and fiscal discipline. A total of 207 participants, including faculty and students from colleges across Goa, attended. The programme was organised by the economics department, coordinated by Pallavi Kalangutkar and compered in Hindi by Utkarsha Korgaonkar.
