MAPUSA/BICHOLIM: Police officials were kept on their toes on Thursday morning after the right leg of a human was first sighted in Chapora River near Camurlim jetty, Mapusa, while a severed head was later found in the sea near Chapora jetty, Anjuna.

Later in the evening, a left leg was found in the river near Camurlim jetty.

Police suspect the body parts belong to Ratan Carol (25), a resident of Tivrem Marcel and a native of Rajasthan, who was reported missing since December 17 and whose torso was found by Bicholim police on Wednesday. Police have arrested two brothers, Devidas and Dattaguru Sinari, of Amona-Bicholim, in this connection.

Incidentally, Devidas is a policeman attached to the IRB Police.

At around 8 am, Mapusa Police got a call informing about an amputated leg found floating on the banks of the river near the Camurlim jetty. Police officials immediately rushed to the spot, retrieved the leg and conducted the panchanama.

Soon thereafter at around 11 am, Anjuna Police received information of a severed head washed ashore near the Chapora jetty.

Anjuna Police rushed to the site and conducted the panchanama.

In the evening at around 5.30 pm, Mapusa Police once again received a call on the sighting of another leg at Camurim jetty.

According to police, the right leg was found in the morning and while the left one was found in the evening,

Both the legs had jeans pant on them confirming that they belonged to the deceased, Ratan Carol.

The head was in a decomposed state and the hair was tied in a knot behind, Anjuna police informed.

Mapusa Police and Anjuna police sent the body parts to GMC and Hospital for preservation and further investigation.

The Bicholim Police were also informed about the recovery of the human body parts.

Speaking to reporters, Bicholim DySP Ramesh Gaonkar said the autopsy would be conducted at GMC on Friday, to ascertain the cause of death.

It may be recalled that Carol had gone missing since December 17 and a missing complaint had been filed by one Bhagirath Carol, brother-in-law of the deceased, at the Bicholim police station the next day.

During the course of investigation, police had initially registered a case of abduction against Devidas and Dattaguru Sinari. Police later recovered the headless body of the deceased with both the legs missing in the Mhadei River at Tarmatha Pale-Bicholim on Wednesday.

Bicholim police could not find the skull and the legs, despite prolonged search operations in all the rivers at Bicholim and Sattari talukas.

Police achieved a major breakthrough when the skull and both legs were found near the Camurlim jetty at Mapusa and near the Chapora jetty at Anjuna.

The police have added Section 302 and Section 201 of IPC against the accused and investigation is in progress under the guidance DySP Ramesh Gaonkar and PI Ninad Deulkar.

Meanwhile, S N Mishra, a leader of the Rajasthani community in Goa, has demanded a through inquiry in the matter.

He along with an estimated 100 people belonging to the Rajasthani community visited PI Deulkar on Thursday evening to demand a through inquiry in the alleged murder case.
