Tawadkar lays foundation stone for development of Devbagh grounds

Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar laid the foundation stone for the development of Devbagh grounds under Government village playground on Tuesday.

Canacona Municipal Council chairperson Simon Rebello and others were present when the sports minister unveiled the plaque to mark the commencement of developmental works.

Earlier, the village elder Rafghoba Patti with the help of a pickaxe did the land puja and later, along with all the guests broke a coconut at the site.

Tawadkar reiterated that government will not lag behind in expediting the developmental works at this ground along with Poinguinim stadium to be built for National Games. He assured that the sports infrastructure will be ready in time for National Games. "Devbagh ground may be used by national games visiting teams for practice sessions," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, VM Prabhudesai stated that Goa despite being a dot on the national scene has not lagged behind and has taken giant leaps in the field of sports. "Goa has won over 200 medals and this is one of the highest tallies amongst many regions if compared to the size of this tiny state," Prabhudesai said.

The ground is to be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 3,41,61941.29 as the Devabhaga ground is spread across 15,000 sqm of land and will have two changing rooms attached with toilets for players. Referee room with attached toilets, Medical-cum-Dope test room along with provision of toilets, administration block and store room, spectators (men and women) toilets, 500-spectators roof covered seating-stand, electrification in all areas/rooms. All rooms will have ceramic tiles flooring and aluminum anodized windows. The play field will have grass/lawn, automatic sprinkler system, provision for pump, water storage and plumbing line.

The work has been entrusted to M/s Shivam Infratech, Ponda. Others who spoke in occasion were CMC Chairperson Simon Rebello, Poinguinim Sarpanch Mahesh Naik, Loliem-Polem Sarpanch Bhushan Prabhugaonkar, while Sanjay Komarpant compered and proposed the vote of thanks.
