The Cinephile Film Club of Entertainment Society of Goa will be screening the film Fargo (1996) directed by the Coen brothers, the film won two Oscars at Maquinez Palace, Old GMC Building on December 30, at 6.30 pm. Sachin Chatte will host the screening of Fargo that has William H Macy, Frances McDormand, Steve Buscemi as cast. The 97-minute film is directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. The screening is free and open to all above 18, on a first-come-first-served basis, following all SOPs. The membership for the film club will start soon. A popular web series of the same name was a derivative of this cult film but prior to that it was a feature film that won 80 odd awards worldwide. It got 7 Oscar nominations and won 2 of them (Best Screenplay for Coen Brothers and Best Actress for Frances McDormand), and the Best Director at Cannes that year. Considered to be one of the finest films by the Coen brothers, this black comedy crime thriller has a story that revolves around Marge (Frances McDormand) who investigates a series of murders while William H Macy plays a car salesman who wants to kidnap his wife. “Films like Fargo are why I love the movies,” said famed critic Roger Ebert in his review and rated it as the best film of the year.
