Holy Family HS, Porvorim, made Goa proud when its team won the second place in the all-India quiz on life and works of Mahatma Gandhi, held in Kolkata recently.
Madhusudhan Hasbe and Neel de Souza represented the school who emerged the first runner up in the finals held at Science City, Kolkata. The quiz was organized by National Council of Science Museums, union ministry of Culture, Government of India. Both the aforesaid students were trained by the teacher Maria De Souza.
Madhusudhan and Neel received the trophy, certificates and cash prize of Rs.30,000 at the hands of Prof Suparna Gooptu, head of department, History, University of Calcutta, at a grand ceremony. The quiz, held as part of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, was inaugurated by Jawhar Sircar, former secretary, union ministry of culture.
Winning at the state-level, Holy Family HS team had qualified for the semi-finals competing with 22 top schools from across the country.
DAV Public school, Bhubaneswar, won the first place with correct answer to the last question of the nail-biting final round. Around 350 schools had participated in the competition.
