NEW DELHI: All major opposition parties Monday, including Congress AAP, BSP, SP, CPI(M) and TMC upped the ante against the government’s demoentisation scheme and one by one slammed the move. Congress went a step further calling it "tax terrorism."
Congress asserted that the country will not run through political jumlas or crocodile tears and further added that an "autocrat" PM Narendra Modi has overnight converted people's money into a waste piece of paper.
Congress spokesperson also asked the government whether Jan Dhan accounts are being used to turn black money into white.

After 2 days in line farmer kills self
Chhattisgarh: A 45-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide as he was upset over not being able to get his high-denomination notes exchanged for fresh ones due to serpentine queues in banks.
The farmer’s wife Pushpalata claimed that Ravi Pradhan was in urgent need of money to help their two sons who were in Tamil Nadu, but was facing difficulties after old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 were banned.
“Pradhan’s body was found hanging at his house in Maharajpur village under Saria development block on November 12 night,” Sarangarh Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Junas Bada said.
“What exactly prompted him to take such an extreme step is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note was found at the spot,” he said.

JAMMU: Terming the demonetisation of 500 and 1,000 rupee notes as a "financial surgical strike," BJP on Monday said it has put a nail in the coffin of separatism and militancy in Kashmir and that the situation in the valley would never be the same again.
"Militancy and separatism in Kashmir will never be the same after the financial surgical strike by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The well-timed and extremely well-executed move on blocking currency of high denominations by the Union government has put a nail in the coffin of separatism and militancy in the state," BJP's Jammu and Kashmir chief spokesperson Sunil Sethi said here.

SBI senior cashier dies of chest pain
Bhopal: A 45-year-old senior cashier with State Bank of India died after he experienced chest pain at its Ratibad branch here, police said.
Purshottam Vyas experienced chest pain and uneasiness a little after 5 pm, following which he was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
According to police, he probably died while on way to hospital.
"We have registered a case and started investigation," police officer C Mewade said while confirming the incident.
He said Vyas' body has been sent to Hamadia Hospital for postmortem to find out exact cause of his death.

New Delhi: ‎Md Shamim Israel is a well-to-do farmer from the soil-rich district of Lakhimpur in Uttar Pradesh. But now he finds himself in the middle of a crisis. Like lakhs of other farmers across the state, Israel has not been able to buy seeds and fertilisers, or pay for labour as he finds himself running out of ready, legal cash.
As the demonetisation threatens the sowing of wheat and pulses in the Rabi season, many have started complaining against the move, questioning why the farming sector was not kept in mind.

Bank unions criticise govt
Vadodara: Two leading bank unions on Monday criticised the government over demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, saying the move has led to "financial chaos" across the country.
In a letter to Indian Banks' Association (IBA), All India Bank Officers' Association (AIBOA) and All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) said the decision to withdraw the high-value notes was taken without proper planning or preparation.
They also highlighted heavy work pressure on employees and officers at bank branches in the wake of demonetisation which has led to customers rushing to exchange the now defunct notes.
