It’s a decision that will help to connect people from NorthKarnataka and South Maharashtra.
Indian railway is likely to start Dharwad-Karad trainservice, which will pass through Belgaum and Kolhapur stations.
Union Minister of State for Railways, K H Muniyappa, who wason a visit to Kolhapur said: “In an attempt to develop healthy relation betweenNorth Karnataka and South Maharashtra, we are planning to start theDharwad-Karad train. It will possibly start within three months.
The demand to join Kolhapur with the Konkan Railway was along pending request of the people from this region.
The railway connection will not only benefit passengers andcargo transportation but also help development of the area.
“Survey of Kolhapur-Dharwad track is going on, once it iscompleted the work for the said track will be started soon,” Muniyappa said.
He also disclosed that there was a demand for two lane trackon this route. “This will be considered only after taking a look at the railwaytraffic,” he said.
Muniyappa hinted at a possible hike in railway ticket in thenear future. Raising concern on the safety aspect of the railway, he said thatthe ministry has already appointed two committees to look into the matter. Thereport has already been submitted, he added.
“Their recommendations have been considered and work hasalready started. The ministry will take some policy decisions on the safety andsecurity of the railways,” Muniyappa said.
He informed that mobile ticketing will be introduced to curbblack marketing of the railway ticket.
