In the wake of the gruesome Orlando killings, where a gunman shot and killed 49 people in a gay nightclub, Pulse, came another murder, this time in England. Labour MP Jo Cox, a 42-year-old mother of two, was shot three times and repeatedly stabbed while out in her constituency. She was campaigning for Britain to Remain in the EU. As she lay there bleeding, her assailant, Thomas Mair, kicked her and then stabbed another man who tried to intervene. There seems to be more to this than meets the eye. The recent campaign leading up to the referendum on June 23 has polarized the people of Britain. The Leave or Remain campaign has seen a lot of angst and frustration build up on both sides of the argument, with campaigners sparring on social media and even during on the ground campaigns. But this killing is on a whole other level. There is no evidence yet as to indicate whether Cox was killed because of which side she was on in the campaign. The question now, as campaigning is suspended in deference to Cox s death, is will this turn into a sympathy vote for the Remain camp?
