AAP versus BJP

Arvind Kerjiwal has a way of sending the BJP into a tizzy. He recently alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s university degrees were fake. The BJP swung into action and party president Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley displayed Modi’s degrees to the media “ a BA from the Delhi University and an MA in political science from the Gujarat University. AAP did not run away with its tail between its legs. Instead, it pointed out deficiencies in the dates and names and what should have been laughed off in the first place has become a thorn in the flesh of the BJP.

AAP is doing to Modi what the BJP is doing to Sonia Gandhi. The strategy of the game is to hit the parties at the top. Discredit the leader and the rest will crumble. This punch, run and return to punch again has become the hallmark of national politics. AAP is looking at Punjab and Goa, which go to the polls in a year, to make a big political statement. Goa is ruled by the BJP government while Punjab is ruled by an ally. AAP needs to be seen as anti-BJP and since Modi is the party’s mascot, attacking him fits into its electoral strategy. Be prepared for more such skirmishes.
