Although the PM Narendra Modi has been stressing on ‘Swachh Bharat' abhiyan for almost three years, no progress of any sort has been noticed in Goa yet. Scenes of scattered garbage at different spots have become a common sight. On Sundays and public holidays in particular, people are found dumping their household garbage and other unwanted material along the roadside, thereby creating unhygienic conditions for travellers and pedestrians proceeding along the main road. Seen in the picture is garbage scattered along the main road adjacent to KTC bus-stand in Ponda. Unless the concerned authorities deal firmly with the offenders, it would be difficult to bring the existing degrading condition under control. Persons found dumping garbage in the open must be punished with cash fines to be paid on the spot.
