Beef politics needs to stop. In another incident involving cow vigilantes and oppressed minorities, two women were beaten up in Madhya Pradesh on suspicion of carrying
beef. Despite the fact that they had a permit to carry buffalo meat, they were assaulted by a group of women. Later, it was proven that the meat in question was indeed buffalo
and not cow. The local police feigned ignorance of the incident at first but have now filed a case against unknown assailants. The Madhya Pradesh home minister denied that the
women were assaulted, despite the fact that the incident was filmed by spectators.
While there was a hue and cry in the MP assembly, the Centre has been silent, as they have been on numerous incidents
where people have been assaulted and killed because right
wing groups suspected that there was beef involved. If there
is ever any suspicion that people are carrying beef, in regions
where the meat is banned, the law must step in and not allow
groups to take matter in their own hands. Incidents like this
are unacceptable and only go to show that the Hindu Rashtra
campaign is gaining momentum.
