The BJP is doing it in the only way that it knows “ confrontation and violence. In working overtime, behind the scene, to get Kanhaiya Kumar and three others rusticated from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, the central government has clearly identified Kumar as a threat larger than Rahul Gandhi. The reluctance of the Delhi High Court to cancel his bail on flimsy grounds that he had made an anti-national speech is a setback for the government and particularly for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who now has someone who can match his oratory skills, if not surpass them.
The NDA government is desperate to neutralize Kanhaiya, who would have remained unknown, but for a foolish move by the government to arrest him on the basis of a doctored video. So desperate is the BJP to lock him up, that a second petition was filed to get his bail cancelled. What the NDA government is unaware of is that the more he is provoked the more dangerous he will get and greater will be his ability to unite students. Kumar does not come across as a person who can be cowed down by the threat of a jail term. Kanhaiya has drawn support from Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the writing on the wall is that the BJP is playing with fire and could end up strengthening an opponent instead of the opposite.
