Time to rest in peace
It is now 40 long days that the body of our dear friend Fr Bismarque Dias is languishing in the morgue of the Goa Medical College at Bambolim. The investigation is on into the cause and reasons of his sudden death and must continue till the truth is unraveled. But with the viscera report having been received, his mortal remains are not required for any further examination. It therefore now has to be a priority that Fr Bismarque Dias who so selflessly, dedicatedly and tirelessly toiled for Goa is given a fitting hero’s farewell and laid to rest with all due respect to the great departed soul.
Christmas is around the corner and it is further distressing that now for no reason the body of our great warrior Fr Bismarque Dias remains consigned to that very unhygienic and regularly malfunctioned morgue which is also infested with a huge brigade of rats and other rodents. Fr Bismarque Dias’s last rites cannot wait any longer. God bless the great Goan soldier who while alive suffered working extremely incessantly for Goa and is still after death enduring the distress.

Whose rights?
News reports that Delhi police is contemplating invoking the National Security Act in order to keep the juvenile offender convicted in the infamous Nirbhaya rape case in jail will have come as a matter of great consolation for the parents of the unfortunate girl. In what was seen as virtual mockery of our justice system, the youngest of the six men convicted for the gruesome crime - a teenager- as good as walked free, sentenced to three years in a reform home. The lenient sentencing spurred demands for changes in our juvenile justice system. That nothing much has come of the deliberations and a consensus still eludes the judiciary on the subject is crystal clear considering that the National Human Rights Commission has had to take cognizance of the complaint by the parents of the unfortunate girl who have submitted that such criminals are a threat to the life and liberty of the common man. The government should be making efforts to strengthen the extant laws on the subject. In this context some basic questions need to be answered. In view of the ruthlessness of their crimes, why should teenage criminals not be tried as adults and sentenced accordingly?

The greatest strength of the FC Goa team is the crowd support the team is getting beside of course the talent the players are displaying. After losing the first leg of the semifinal against Delhi Dynamos FC, the Goan outfit bounced back in the second leg playing in front of the home crowd. It is the crowd support which has been the driving force for the team and the team has not let down its fans. Now FC Goa has the advantage of playing the finals in front of the home crowd and should be considered strong contenders to lift the league title. Goans will not want the team to be second best after heading the league table. FC Goa players have it in them to be crowned champions
