Yoga’s importance?
I am not in the least surprised that our Chief Minister announced that, come July, yoga training will be started across the State in 180 schools by employing 180 yoga teachers on contract. After all, contract labour is government's hallmark to kick them out later. But my main question to Chief Minister Parsekar, who I presume was a headmaster, is that what and how will it benefit a child in their upbringing school years. Can Parsekar clarify or cite any scientific basis that yoga helps in the upbringing of a child? Can he cite any genuine scientific research that shows benefits of yoga?
Is yoga internationally accepted as a requisite for a child's benefit and upbringing, and advised by UNESCO or any other international educational organisation? Or is the government pushing down the throats of people whatever they believe, diktats that have no scientific basis?

This is with reference to the news item ‘ Govt employees may have to work on last Saturday’ (The Goan Everyday, June 20). Since there is a backlog of work to be cleared in government offices , Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar should make it compulsory for all government employees to clear the pending work by working extra every month. This can be done either by working an extra hour every day or by working on the last Saturday of every month, as suggested by the Chief Minister. Government employees as we know work only seven hours a day instead of eight to nine hours a day put in by employees in the private sector, most of whom also enjoy a five day week. It is hoped that effective steps are taken by the government to see that the mounting backlog in government offices is cleared every month so that the public are not put to inconvenience and hardship in getting their work done in time.

Going through the story of MGP, published in The Goan Everyday, June 18, it is observed that the present MGP cannot be compared to the MGP during the time of Bhausaheb Bandodkar. Bhausaheb Bandodkar was a very efficient,non-corrupt Chief Minister of Goa. He ruled Goa with only three ministers and did not discriminate against anybody. All the people of different castes and creed were treated equally, whereas the present MGP, in the hands of Dhavalikars, is bundle of corruption, anti- minorities and a highly communal party. The only mistake that Bhausaheb Bandorkar made, was to attempt to merge Goa with Maharashtra. If Dr.Jack de Sequeira did not intervene and ask for an Opinion Poll, today Goa would be a part of Maharashtra and the boasters like Sudin Dhavalikar, Lavu Mamlatdar and others would be nowhere. Today Sudin Davalikar and his brother, as well as Lavu Mamladkar are ministers because of Dr. Jack de Sequeira and people from South Goa who voted in the Opinion Poll and retained Goa separate status.
