Mega corruption
The BJP was elected on the plank of good governance and zero tolerance for corruption. How is it that it is possible for a non Goan tenant migrant woman to be able to documentarily make the landlord her parents? Not only that, but obtain a birth certificate and a marriage certificate as Goan and apply for Portuguese citizenship! It is further reported that the police are tardy in investigation and action. It is only after meeting the Margao Municipal Commissioner CO Deepali Naik that a preliminary departmental enquiry has been ordered. Changing names, vital certificates obtained etc will require compliance by high level officials/bureaucrats/professionals and mega corruption in the government machinery.

Bad roads
The roads in Goa have become accident prone roads. Companies that laying sewage pipe lines have damaged the roads very badly; then groves are made on both the sides of the roads to lay cables by another company. Due to their shabby work, the roads are left in bad condition and the citizens are inconvenienced. Now to avoid ditches, groves, pits, bumps on the roads, the drivers have to turn and divert their vehicles. As a result accidents occur. In other places such defaulting companies are taken to task if the roads are not kept in proper conditions. To make the matters worse, there are drivers who drive their vehicles recklessly which results in fatal accidents. The accident that occurred at Bondorim Sirlim is a clear case. Those drivers who try to overtake other vehicles and thereby hit the opposite vehicles must be taken to task seriously. The licences of such drivers must be suspended or cancelled. Unfortunately, the RTOs in Goa are interested to check only helmetless riders and the rest go scot free. There must be deterrent punishment for all the defaulters otherwise many more innocent lives will be lost on the roads in Goa.

Wrong method
It is reported that there was some altercations between CCP authorities, St Cruz MLA and the In-charge of Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) regarding closure of their side entrance which was creating traffic problems when the people go to the crematorium which is just ahead of it. This problem could have been discussed and solved amicably and not in a dictatorial way.
The entrance has been there for years. People used to take strays for either surgeries, vaccination, or used to adopt strays rescued by them etc. It is pity that this entrance has now been blocked by CCP with immediate effect and with no discussions. I was told people brought lots of objections to this Animal Welfare Society entrance because many vehicles used to park on the road thus blocking access for other vehicles going to the crematorium. Somehow or the other the CCP managed to rapidly cut low tree branches which were at the sides and build a stone construction to block the entrance. This reflects badly on the CCP as it seems to be taking decisions abruptly and without studying the consequences if any. Change is most successful when it is preceded by discussion, and when all those affected are brought on board.
