Rahul rant

Rahul Gandhi might be in hot soup, thanks to an error committed while filing income tax returns of an out-sourcing company in the UK of which he is a director. The error was exposed by the Subramanium Swamy who is not likely to let go of the topic. The BJP will milk it for whatever it is worth and the Congress will go into attack mode. The details will be forgotten as both parties trade blows in public and in the media. Politics can be quite predictable in this country.

What Gandhi should to have done was explain the issue, admit if a mistake had been committed and then initiated steps to correct it. Instead Gandhi used the issue to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a, 'I dare you to imprison me', speech. What he said on the occasion of Indira Gandhi's birth anniversary did not exactly clear the air and the question over how he was misrepresented still remains unanswered. Gandhi's reaction was clearly a political mistake.

The next leader of the Congress needs to come across as a person in control of the situation. The party needs a stead hand at the helm and the shouting should have been assigned to a person lower in the pecking order.
