Reminding the West

The climate talks underway in Paris could probably be the last attempt to save the world from impending disaster and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was right to remind developed countries that the present situation is a consequence of the industrial revolution which was fueled by coal. While lending his weight to the effort to arrest climate change, Modi said that developed countries should put together at least $ 100 billion to finance energy changes in other nations. It is a debt that these countries own the world. The Prime Minister is attempting to put together a group of nations which have sunlight for at least 300 days a year with the aim of harnessing solar energy, but for this process to be accelerated, developed nations must show the willingness to share solar cell technology or make them available at an affordable rate. The shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources is in the process, but it is uneven and low oil prices in the international market are not helping. Only a conscious effort by the West and commitment by all will help shift the world from the present path.
