The ‘farming challenge’ thrown open to Goan politicians on social media by the sarpanch of Aquem-Baixo to venture out of their air-conditioned offices and help farmers in the fields solve their problems has had the desired effect by spurring 2 of our MLAs to throw down the gauntlet and accept the challenge. While one of the MLAs was more than happy to drive the tractor on the field, the other was seen tilling the land with a pair of oxen. We have seen many such photo-ops and theatrics in the past which are forgotten the very next day, as in the case of the ‘Swachh Bharat’ cleanliness drive in Goa, when ministers and other dignitaries were seen wielding brooms and brushes to sweep the streets and clean government offices. Sadly, the situation is as bad, if not worse than before. It is hoped that some more challenges of this kind are thrown to our politicians in future, to goad them onto the streets of Goa and open their eyes to the pathetic state of roads all over the state.
