Tiatr Mogi
After the creation of man, God asked them to increase and multiply. And since then parenthood became an important consideration. Parents look into the needs of the children. Parents always want their offspring to tread the paths of uprightness and virtue. Moreover when parents are respected in the society for their virtuous life, seeing their children grow in virtue is all that they aim for. After toiling for their offsprings with uprightness is it too much to expect their children to be good citizens? Is it asking for too much, if an honest parent expects his child to follow the paths of honesty and good values? And when a child falters and does not mend his bended ways, to what extent a father and moreover an upright police officer go? Caught between the devil and the deep sea what will the upright and honest parent do? Seek all these answers as you watch Dy Sp Sammy Tavares’s latest tiatr Bhurgim Kiteak Somzonant?
Script
The script is interesting and has interesting turns and sequences as the tiatr unfolds. But, it is written in the non-stop drama form wherein the comedy script runs into a parallel story. There are some melodious kantos composed and sung in style. The language is simple and flowery. The only hitch is the interval scene written probably to manifest the talent of Lawry Travasso for whom it seem tailor made. Lawry in the past has excelled in cameo roles but in this tiatr, the move backfires as the length of the scene turned the proceedings of the otherwise good going tiatr into a monotonous journey of boredom
Comedy
The comedy of this tiatr has another storyline that has nothing to do with the main storyline giving the performance, a non stop drama look. Coming from the pens of an educated and respected gentleman in uniform, one expected decent and modest comedy to feature in the tiatr but the very first entry of the character of Richard in the ‘naked Amir Khan in PK style’ here with a stone in his neck hanging was irritating and distasteful. The comedy is more in the stand up style with every scene becoming a collection of jokes woven within the script.
Sets
Good thought has been given for the sets. Appropriate settings that are specially made for this tiatr are on display. The boxing ring in the beginning, the railway station platform are well depicted. So also the house of the honest police officer and the police station are modest and suggestive of the need of the scene.
Acting
The tiatr features the best of the tiatr world. The dashing hero of the tiatr stage Ulhas Tari carries the tiatr on his shoulders doing great justice to his role. Franky as the spoilt child is great but his unnecessary shouting and screaming could have been toned down. Olga as the mother torn between her arrogant son and upright police officer husband displays another great character. Cajetan de Cacora is impressive too. Sheena Gracias has a small role to play but her portrayal outplayed the other leads too. Lawry has always been great in the cameos he played but here his scene was so dragged with two cantos included that the audience was bored with some even leaving the auditorium knowing well that the interval break would follow. The comedians Ambe and Joanna were very impressive and and impactful. Richard irritated the audience with his first naked appearance but managed to get laughter for his subsequent acts Caetano and Sasha too are great.
Music/songs
The band led by the sensational Norman Cardozo was great and provided scintillating music throughout. The opening is beautifully sung by the melodious Sheena Gracias of the Goencho Avaz fame. Her timing, expressions and voice modulations were simply great and mind blowing. There are interesting solos beautifully rendered by Lawry Travasso, Rosario de Benaulim, Joana, Xavier Gomes, Michael, and Roma too. Dy Sp Sammy Tavares renders a beautiful solo centering around the pilgrimage centre of Our Lady of Vailankanni. There is interesting duet again beautifully sung by Lawry Travasso and Sheena Gracias.
Direction
Dy Sp Sammy Tavares has put up a good performance and has managed to extract the best from his cast and technical staff. Good attention has been paid to every department. The tiatr ensures a well spent time. Its a good performance to watch.
