LONDON
The Goan community in Hounslow held its first official coffee morning on November 8, bringing together local residents and councillors from the Hounslow Central ward in a gathering marked by unity, dialogue, and a historic political milestone.
For the first time, Hounslow will have a Goan candidate standing in the upcoming council elections scheduled for May 2026. Pamila Rodrigues, a long-standing community figure, will contest from the Hounslow Central ward, representing the borough’s growing Goan population.
The event opened with Councillor Pritam Grewal, who warmly welcomed attendees and praised the Goan community for their contributions to the cultural and social fabric of the borough.
Councillor Ajmer Grewal also addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of community cohesion and outlining ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of Hounslow High Street.
Local businessman Simon Rodrigues, former owner of Maka Tik Naka and organiser of Aikat Mozo Tavo, raised key concerns about the challenges faced by businesses on the high street. He highlighted issues relating to anti-social behaviour and drug misuse, calling for increased police presence to safeguard traders.
The gathering was further enriched by the presence of Fanxeil Fernandes, President of the Cortalim Association, who travelled from Swindon to support Pamila Rodrigues.
In his remarks, Fanxeil Fernandes encouraged members of the Goan community to remain united and proactive. Prominent Goan lawyer Kenneth Pires also spoke, reaffirming his support for community-driven initiatives and endorsing Pamila’s candidacy.
“The well-attended meeting left attendees energised and optimistic, with many expressing that the morning made them feel heard and represented. The momentum is building ahead of what promises to be a significant moment in Hounslow’s local political landscape,” said Pamila.
