PARIS
The Goan Association in Paris organised an Easter celebration at Eglise - Saint Dominique, 20 Rue de la Tombe Issoire, 75014 Paris on March 31 at 12.30 pm.
The Mass in Konkani was celebrated by Fr Elvin Lopes, OFM Cap, and Fr Denzil Fernandes SJ, a Jesuit from Divar-Goa and former Executive Director of Indian Social Institute, New Delhi, who is in Paris as part of his sabbatical year.
The Mass was followed by a party in the Church hall. The people danced to the tunes of Goan music initiated by DJ Savio Cardozo while the live music was made available by Moses Rodrigues and John da Costa. Viona Cardozo compered the programme.
The Easter cake was cut by Fr Denzil Fernandes SJ, Fr Elvin Lopes OFM Cap and the committee members. There was a distribution of Easter eggs to the children.
The much awaited housie, which was conducted for all the participants, was won by Jade Albuquerque and the lottery was won by John da Costa. The event was organized by Camilo Felix Cardozo, the President and the committee members of the Goan Association in Paris.
THE ASSOCIATION
The Goan Association was started in 1999, with the aim to unite the Goan community in Paris.
“This year, we will be hosting a special event to celebrate 25 years of the association. During the year, the Goan Association organises the Easter and Sao Joao feast in Paris. Besides these two events, we organise an annual summer picnic with lots of games and prizes. The association also brings in Konkani Tiatrs from the UK,” said Cardozo.
At present, the committee members of the Goan Association are Camilo Felix Cardozo (President), Romaldo Gurjao (Vice-President), Regina Pereira (Treasurer), Savio Cardozo (Secretary) and Piedade Gurjao, Joel Fernandez and Georgina Gonsalves (Cultural and Social activities representatives).
