Do you ever wonder how life would have turned out if you had married your first love? It throws up various permutations and combinations. It gets your juices flowing. It gets your imagination running wild. Suddenly romance is in the air and …… whatever. I am not going to spell it out for you. Just use your imagination. Or let it run amok.
Let me tell you about the first love of my life. I can do that because my wife is okay with me talking about her. Wives rarely allow their husbands so much latitude, but my wife trusts me …. perhaps a wee bit too much for her own good.
This might surprise you but I was introduced to my first love one day in Belgaum by a cousin who said, “you are going to like this”. I did not take him seriously, but as days passed I got to like her more and more.
If you were to ask me why, I would be stumped for an answer. I can’t quite figure out why I was drawn to her. Was it her figure? Was it the way she looked? I don’t really know. But she was always tempting me in ways that I could scarcely resist.
As far as figures go, she had the curves. The kind that made your blood pressure go up and play pranks with your brain. There was a certain kind of smoothness to her skin that made me want to touch her every now and then, in the right places. Yes, your heard me, in the right places. I grew up in a conservative place (Belgaum), in a conservative family, and with conservative values. But like every young boy with raging hormones, I broke a few rules.
So, did I kiss her? That is an inquisitive question, but I will answer it since I am baring my heart and soul here. I don’t know if it is brave or stupid to do that. Very few people talk openly about their first love and practically no one puts this experience into print. Like I said, I broke a few rules.
Yes I did kiss her. Several times. Actually I lost count of the times I kissed her or held her or enjoyed her presence or just sniffed the aroma around her. Just having her in the room was like a breath of freshness.
When we started out she had the curves but as years progressed the curves got less pronounced. Now she has a figure that is more wholesome. You could say plump or whatever. A lesser person would have said, “she looks like a barrel” and would have paid for it with a broken nose. But then beauty is in the eye of the beholder and to me she was always a source of great attraction. She had those little things on the side that are often referred to as love handles.
My first love has been the cause of a lot of heartburn. I tried giving her up but I have to admit it is very difficult to give up that morning cup of coffee, which is my first love.
Every morning I spend 25 minutes with my cup of coffee. I first inhale the aroma and then lightly kiss the edge of the cup for the first sip. I will not share that first cup with anyone, not even the interesting girl I am married to.
When I first started drinking coffee in Belgaum it was in lovely cups made of bone china, hence the curves and smooth surface. I have now shifted to a big mug, which resembles a barrel. As for the love handles, she had one.
Sorry if I led you down the wrong path, but that is how I think about my cup of coffee. One mug, in the morning, with no one else. It’s like dancing with Nicole Kidman.
