Three young women artists, Rima Dhume Laud, Medha Monteiro and Lucia de Sousa will be showcasing their artwork in a group exhibition titled 'Lumiere' at Carpe Diem Art Gallery “ Majorda from November 13 “ 18 . While none of them have any formal degree in fine arts, it was their passion for art which prompted them to enlist with Beena Gangani’s art courses. Each has their own mix of styles, and as a group have explored various mediums around the theme of Goa.
Rima’s use of strong colour and vivid imagery brings to her artwork great depth whether it is an image of large looming trees with hues of browns and greens to her use of textures in highlighting the beauty in dilapidated walls and architectural perspectives are well presented.
Medha on the other hand tends to prefer more pastel shades and through her art captures nature and wilderness on larger canvases. A certain importance that Goans give to the religious aspects of their culture can be seen in the use of crosses, temple spaces and tulsi plants.
Lucia's work on architectural landscapes of heritage spaces in Goa are detailed and capture close to photographic visuals while other works focus on the calm waters where villagers are busy with their daily routines of fishing, transporting flowers via waterways in serene environments.
The exhibition has been curated by Naguesh Rao Sardessai.
