Tiatr Mogi
The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. The mother is always considered as the home maker. What happens when the mother, possessed with thoughts of selfishness and self gratification, becomes a home breaker? The end result is total confusion and disaster not only for the married couple but also for the children. Tanchi Kosli Chuk written by Kisan de Chinchinim and directed by Frankito Nunes, takes you through a melodaramatic saga of love and rejection making one ponder over ones own personal life vis a vis the sacrament of marriage.
Script
The script is interesting and written in the tiatr form. Comedy is an integral part of the main storyline. There are interesting cantos. The first half is fast paced and has interesting twists and turns. The interval act is classy. The second half gets loose but remains interesting nevertheless.
Comedy
The comedy is simple. Decent in general but some indirect passes made at sexuality could have been avoided. The comedy being an integral part of the storyline gives the seriousness in the plot a welcome comic relief. The comedy may not have some great laugh out loud moments but then it keeps you smiling throughout the tiatr.
Sets
The sets are suggestive of the financial status of the family living in it. However the absence of decent furniture lowered the value of the sets. The comedy was enacted on good curtains and the blue curtain for once was not used at all.
Acting
The tiatr features a mixed bag of experienced and new artistes. Justino gives in a power packed performance. Meena Goes as the home maker and family builder was superb. After getting used to see her recently in comic roles it was a treat to see her enacting a decent role to great perfection. The youngsters Aliya and Durva have a great promise on stage. Joel a relatively new face on the tiatr stage, cast in the lead role of the father has a great stage personality and dialogue delivery too. However at times the unnecessary crankiness in his voice made him an over acting hero. But he surely has a great future on stage. Grizelda lacked confidence and was effective only in patches. Ubaldo needs to be himself and stop copying other actors. His own style of acting would have presented him as a better performer. The comedy was in the hands of new artistes Sybolia and Sardon. Both though new are impressive and have a good future ahead.
Music/songs
The band led by Francis is good. It was a treat to see two girls as band members playing the drums and bass guitar. A welcome move for the tiatr industry for sure. There are interesting songs. Ninoshka Goes renders the opening song with great poise and then returns for another solo. Menino Mario, Alecka Cardozo, Mackenzie Meena all dish out powerful solos. There is also a good duo sung by Joel and Tony. Duets by Mackenzie and Freddy, Sardon and Sybolia too are a good listening. A trio by Freddy, Ubaldo and Tony on the law and order situation with reference to the hanging of Kumar was good.
Direction
The director must be complimented for bringing on stage lesser known artistes and getting out a decent performance from them. Tanchi Kosli Chuk is definitely a good performance to watch and patronize.
