Agnelo (Aggie) Dias was recently felicitated by Malaysia Airlines in recognition of his outstanding service to the airline in the UK.
He was felicitated by senior officials at the ‘MAG60’ event in Malaysia, which was organised by Malaysia Airlines.
Hailing from St Estevam in Goa, Aggy has been in the aviation industry for 35 years, including the last eight years at Malaysia Airlines, having navigated numerous challenges throughout his career.
He persevered through the Kuwait-Iraq War in 1990, faced the uncertainties of the Millennium Bug, and weathered the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. His resilience and dedication exemplify the spirit of the airline industry, particularly in the cargo department and ramp operations.
Agnelo began his aviation career in the cargo sector when he landed his first position in Kuwait with the Kuwait Aviation Services Company (KASCO) in 1990 as an Assistant Traffic Officer (Load Control).
He worked with KASCO for ten years until the onset of the Kuwait-Iraq War. His next opportunity came with Gulf Air, where he served for 13 years as a cargo agent for another ten years.
Aggy moved to the UK in 2015 and joined He joined DHL Express UK, where he worked for three years before joining Malaysia Airlines (UK) in 2017 and is currently working as a senior cargo sales and reservation officer.
“At the age of 60, I was very pleased to have been recognised by Malaysia Airlines at the MAG60 event held in Malaysia,” said Aggie.
LOVE FOR MUSIC
Aggie was one of the first ‘one-man bands’ in North Goa from 1985 to 1990, as he sang while playing the guitar, drum machine, mouth organ, and oboe. He performed at various hotels and also taught music.
Aggie played the oboe for the Symphony Orchestra, Kala Academy, conducted by the late Fr Lourdinho Baretto, and performed with the band 'Sphinx' in Goa before moving to Kuwait. He has released two CDs and composed several original pieces, continuing to perform as a one-man band for various occasions in the UK, as music remains his first passion.
Agnelo states, “Music is a medicine to the soul, heart, and mind; there is no alternative to music. It is music that has always kept me young and cheerful.
He plays the guitar, clarinet, oboe and flute, with the saxophone being his all-time favourite.
