The Earth is what we all have in common. Without this home planet, survival or even existence would not be possible. But, over the years, humans have taken this blue planet for granted and have used its resources excessively causing an imbalance in every sense.
In Goa ‘DownToEarth’ community has taken the initiative of bringing a better change in the environment with a motto of educating the people and asking them to participate in cleaning drives. Started by Gaurav Pokle and supported by YIMBY, a waste management company, the community organized a beach cleanup drive recently at Cidade, Sandalwood Beach, Dona Paula.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the organizers ensured that social distancing was being maintained and that all the garbage collection activities were conducted safely. The community has already conducted over 75 cleanup drives as well as workshops on composting, recycling, waste management for waste generators, stakeholders, schools and organizations. “Through this, we want to make people aware about the seriousness of the environmental issues that we are facing and hope that more people become a part of this initiative. Hence, as much as development is required, we, as citizens, should also ensure to protect our environment and safeguard it for the future,” says Pokle.
