Goan artist Sunil Shirodkar has won third prize at the Fundação Oriente Visual Arts Award 2025, earning wide appreciation at the opening of the shortlisted works exhibition held on Tuesday evening at the Fundação Oriente premises in Fontainhas, Panaji.
The exhibition, inaugurated on December 9, features contemporary artworks by 25 shortlisted artists selected from more than 100 entries. Three works were awarded prizes, with Shirodkar being recognised for his mixed-media artwork titled Protector of Sailors and the Sea. The artwork, measuring 31 x 37 inches, is made using scrap boat fibre and other mixed materials. It draws inspiration from Goa’s coastal life, faith, and maritime traditions. The piece uses worn boat fibre taken from a fisherman’s boat from a village and shows Mother Mary holding baby Jesus within an ornate frame.
