Man held for bid to get passport with fake documents

Panaji Police on Saturday arrested a man for attempting to obtain a passport using forged documents. The accused, identified as Pankaj Choure and a resident of Khorlim, Mapusa, allegedly submitted a forged birth certificate, PAN card and Aadhaar card through the online passport application portal. The Passport officer caught the man for forgery during the interview scheduled for processing passport. According to the complaint filed by Passport Officer Nijo Varghese, during scrutiny, when questioned about the authenticity of his papers, Choure fled the passport office and subsequently went underground. Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta said the address mentioned in the Aadhaar card was found to be fictitious.  "All human and technical resources were deployed to track the accused. He was traced to Chennai and apprehended by the Panaji Police team with assistance from Chennai Police," the officer said adding that Choure was arrested on July 12.
