PANAJI: As part of the celebration of Portuguese Language World Day, Camões CLP will have screenings of three documentaries titled ÁFRICA em Docs (AFRICA in Docs) on the May 4, 6 and 7 from 5 pm onwards. On May 4, Bissau d’Isabel(2005), a 52-minute documentary directed by Sana Na N’Hada and produced by Luís Correia and António Nobre (Lx Filmes) will be screened. In Guinea-Bissau there are about 21 different ethnic groups with totally diverse traditions and dialects.

On May 6, Sea and Jungle (2005), (Sao Tome and Principe) directed by Ângelo Torres and produced by Luís Correia and Noemie Mendelle will be screened at 5 pm. The ‘angolares’ are the eldest inhabitants of S Tomé’s island where, according to the legend, they arrived after a shipwreck.

On May 7, the documentary ‘Batuque - the Soul of a People’ directed by Júlio Silvão and produced by Luís Correia and Marie-Clémence Paes will be screened at 5 pm. Forbidden and devalued during colonisation, as it was considered subversive and offensive to moral decency, the origin of the ‘Batuque’ takes us back to the arrival of the first slaves to the cape Verdean islands, in 1462.
