A youth from Britona was arrested on charges of stealing cash and other valuables from a house in broad daylight in Alto Torda, Salvador do Mundo on Saturday. According to reports, Mubarak Shabir Sheikh (23) had entered into the house of Kalpana Prabhu at about 10.20 am and had stolen a 12-gm gold chain, Rs 5,000 in cash and a mobile phone from a purse kept on the table in the house. When Prabhu entered the house, the accused fled from the site. Prabhu raised an alarm and locals rushed to her aid. They went in search of the accused and found him hiding near the house. A mob then caught hold of the accused and assaulted him. A Porvorim police team was notified of the incident and rushed to the spot. They took the accused into custody and later arrested him. Further investigation is being conducted by Porvorim Police Head Constable Vikram Naik.
