MARGAO
In its continued efforts to empower the local community and promote self-reliance, the Chinchinim village panchayat has successfully conducted a candle-making workshop for the villagers. The programme was organised in association with the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa, and witnessed enthusiastic participation from villagers across different age groups. The workshop aimed at encouraging traditional craftsmanship while also creating opportunities for skill development and self-employment. Participants were given hands-on training by an experienced resource person Joe Vaz, who demonstrated the step-by-step process of making different varieties of candles, including decorative and utility candles. The interactive sessions ensured that each participant could actively engage in the process and take home not just the products they made but also the knowledge and skills to continue the practice independently. Sarpanch Frank Viegas said the initiative received a positive response, with many villagers expressing their gratitude to the Panchayat for organising such meaningful programmes that add value to their daily lives.
