CANACONA

In a move seen by many as a test of his political presence in Canacona taluka, former minister Isidore Fernandes convened his first meeting with supporters from Gaondongrim and Khotigao on Tuesday evening to plan a roadmap for the forthcoming ZP polls in the State. Fernandes is also reported to have explored the possibility of fielding a panel to contest all 12 wards of Canacona municipality at the next elections. While interacting with supporters at his residence in Pedem-Loliem, Fernandes is learnt to have made his intentions clear about his return to active politics. Since his last public meeting to campaign for BJP’s candidate Pallavi Dempo at the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, Fernandes had largely remained out of political action. Sources said he was gauging the public climate before taking a significant step to field panels for the two ZP seats and Canacona municipality. During the last Canacona municipal council elections, nine of the 12 councillors were elected from Isidore’s panel, while he was the deputy speaker.
