Govt raises working journalists’ monthly pension to Rs 15,000

PANAJI: The State government has increased the monthly pension for working journalists from Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 with immediate effect. In a notification issued on Friday, the government amended the Goa State Working Journalist Welfare Scheme, 2021-22, revising the pension amount for eligible beneficiaries. “An amount of Rs 15,000 per month shall be disbursed as pension for pensioner and family pensioner,” the notification stated.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had announced the increase in the pension amount while presenting the State Budget 2026-27. The move was part of measures to strengthen welfare support for media professionals. Meanwhile, the government has extended the benefits under the Goa Welfare/Pension Scheme for Seafarers, 2023 for another year. A notification to this effect has been issued by the Home Department. Under the scheme, eligible seafarers receive a monthly pension of Rs 2,500. The benefit is also extended to family members as per the provisions of the scheme.
