A man believed to be mentally unstable has been arrested after he stole an ambulance from the Vision Hospital in Duler-Mapusa and drove it to Bambolim and then to Pirna, before being intercepted at Revora.
According to Mapusa police, the incidennt took place on Thursday at about 5.30 am, when Pradeep Khalap of Pirna stole a Maruti Eco ambulance which was parked on the ground floor of the hospital building. The hospital administrator later notified the police in this connection.
Khalap drove the vehicle to the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) at Bambolim. From there, Khalap reportedly drove the vehicle to his house in Pirna and from there, was driving the ambulance when he was intercepted by Mapusa police at Revora.
Mapusa police registered a case against Khalap in this connection and he is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
According to sources, the accused had previously worked as a driver in a private hospital and was familiar driving ambulances.
