MARGAO: Navelim Sporting got the better of Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda 4-1 to enter the quarterfinals of the Fr Bruno Leitao Memorial Cup 2024, organised by Union of Chinchinim Villagers, at Chinchinim Church ground, on Monday.
Navelim Sporting started attacking from the very onset of the match with well measured passes and in the 10th minute, Ronald Pereira's shot was saved by Don Bosco goalkeeper Karol Soares.
In the 13th minute, Prestly Gomes of Navelim Sporting headed home from a corner-kick taken by Ronaldo Pereira for make it 1-0 for Navelim. Don Bosco regrouped and started attacking the Navelim defence and in the 18th minute a powerful shot by Glen Fernandes missed the Navelim goal narrowly.
In the 20th minute, Hanslum Furtado headed the equaliser from a cross off Richie Vaz.
In the second half, Navelim Sporting Malappa Bizzargi headed from a cross by Ronaldo to give a lead for Navelim. In the 23rd minute, Prestly scored his second goal to increase the lead for Navelim Sporting 3-1. In the closing minutes of the match, Jeet Gupta also added his name to the score sheet from a direct kick to make it 4-1 for Navelim Sporting.
Prestly Gomes was awarded the player of the match which was handed over by Retisha Gonsalves, Panch member Village Panchayat Chinchinim-Deussua
