Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Tuesday sent a note to TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane with a request to issue notification of large vacant plots in Dovondem ward of Margao Municipal Council as No Development Areas (NDA) to preserve the unique social, cultural and ecological character of the locality.
In a note, Sardesai said there is growing concern that large vacant land parcels are increasingly becoming targets for mega residential and commercial projects. “Such developments would fundamentally alter the character of the area, place enormous pressure on existing infrastructure and threaten the sustainability of traditional occupations by fragmenting open spaces, increasing land use conflicts and making these livelihoods economically unviable,” he said.
He added: “I trust that the government will take timely action to safeguard the traditional character of Dovondem and protect the livelihoods, environment and interests of its long stand communities.”
