‘64 Days of 18 June 1946’ to be released on Independence Day

PANAJI: ‘64 Days of 18 June 1946’, a book by journalist and author Sandesh Prabhudesai, will be released on Independence Day, August 15, at the Black Box of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, at 4.30 pm. Published by Qurate Publishers, the more than 300-page English book examines the 64-day movement in 1946, when people across Goa took to the streets in spontaneous protests against Portuguese colonial rule.

The book explores how Dr Ram Manohar Lohia’s civil liberties movement developed into a mass uprising involving various sections of Goan society. It also examines the economic and political factors behind the movement, its national and international impact, and disagreements among local leaders. The book will be released by 102-year-old freedom fighter Adv Libia Lobo Sardesai. Political scientist Professor Dr Peter Ronald de Souza will be the main speaker, while Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Research Foundation chairman Abhishek Ranjan Singh will be the Guest of Honour.
