PANAJI: The annual feast of St Sebastian was celebrated with traditional fervour at St Sebastian Chapel, Kamamoll-Curchorem, on Sunday. The Feast Mass was celebrated by Fr Carson Dourado, Headmaster of Our Lady of Piety High School, Collem. In his homily, Fr Dourado briefly explained the significance of various signs and symbols used during the sacrament of Baptism in the Church. He highlighted how these sacred actions welcome a person into the Church community and signify a new life in Christ.
The celebration also coincided with the Feast of the Baptism of Jesus, commemorating Jesus being baptised by St John the Baptist. Speaking about the feast day, Fr Dourado reflected on the life of St Sebastian, a Roman soldier who courageously laid down his life for his love of Jesus Christ. He noted that the feast of St Sebastian has been celebrated since the 3rd century, inspiring generations of believers through his unwavering faith and sacrifice. “We celebrate the feasts of saints so that we may draw inspiration from their lives and live our own lives in faith and courage,” he said.
The priest further appealed to the faithful to spread smiles and happiness among others, reminding them that small acts of kindness can bring hope and joy in society.
Later the devotees participated in the procession with prayer and devotion carrying the image of St Sebastian.
